We’ve been told that people who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it, but most of us don’t know much true history, having been indoctrinated with mythological nationalism in high school, then having most media and everything about our lives reflect these myths as if they were true.
Even the Rain is a really cool film that explores how much of our history isn’t in the past at all, but is still here with us, playing out, repeating. We also see how people who mean well and want to do the right thing often do terrible things out of ignorance and because that’s what everyone else is doing, so it’s “normal.” There are many layers and much interesting commentary that is vital to the plot. You can totally watch it on Netflix.
